What is Block Blast?

Block Blast is one of those puzzle games that pulls you in immediately but rewards you the more you play. You're working with an 8×8 grid where you drag and drop colorful block shapes, trying to fill complete lines horizontally or vertically to clear them and earn points.

The setup is simple: three pieces appear at the bottom of your screen, and you place them one by one onto the grid. Once you've placed all three, fresh pieces take their place. The game ends when you can't fit any remaining piece onto the board.

What I enjoy most is that there's no timer breathing down your neck. No competing against anyone. Just you, some blocks, and a puzzle that asks you to think ahead. It makes the game perfect for those moments when you want something relaxing that still gives your brain something to do.

How to Play

The Controls

This is as simple as it gets. You grab a block piece with your mouse or your finger, drag it onto the grid, and drop it wherever it fits. If the piece would overlap existing blocks or extend past the edge of the board, the game won't let you place it there.

Playing on a phone feels good too. The touch controls are responsive, so there's no frustrating lag when you're trying to squeeze a piece into a tight spot.

Core Mechanics

The heart of Block Blast comes down to managing your space wisely. You always have three pieces waiting to be placed, and you must use all of them before getting new ones. That constraint is where the strategy lives—you want to use your board efficiently, but you also need to leave yourself options for whatever shapes come next.

Lines clear when they fill up completely, either going across or going up and down. One line is fine, but clearing multiple lines with a single placement is where things get interesting. Land a piece that wipes out two or three rows at once and you'll see your score jump. Those multi-line clears are what separate the casual sessions from the really satisfying ones.

Tips for Getting Started

A few things I wish someone had mentioned when I first started. Don't pack one corner or edge completely full. Spreading your pieces around gives you breathing room when the game deals you an awkward shape. Also, watch out for big pieces. If you fill your board with tiny blocks, you might find yourself stuck when a large square or long bar shows up and you've got nowhere to put it.

The center of the board tends to stay useful longest. Corners and edges fill up naturally as you play, but the middle gives you more flexibility for those weirdly shaped pieces.

And here's something worth remembering: there's no clock. Look at all three pieces before you start dropping them. Sometimes the move that feels obvious isn't actually the best one when you take a moment to think it through.

Block Blast is one of those games that takes seconds to understand but keeps you thinking for a long time. The basics click right away, but hitting higher scores and building better strategies? That's the part that keeps you coming back.
